The Hollybush, Witney
My friend, and fellow foodie, Laura and I have recently started to enjoy monthly trips out for nibbles and wine. Our recent venue of choice has been The Hollybush in Witney. We were initially drawn to The Hollybush by its Wednesday half price wine night (mid week reward for us both), but the good food, friendly service and great atmosphere soon made us regulars.
The Place and Atmopshere
The Hollybush is a family run gastro pub and its sister is The Three Horseshoes just down the road both are popular with locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is always welcoming, the staff are always friendly and the service attentive. I am yet to visit The Hollybush on quiet day, I honestly don’t think a quiet day is something they experience . They serve good wine and great ales. It’s a great gastro pub in the heart of Witney, Oxfordshire.
When it comes to the food choice at The Hollybush we always have a [large] deli board between us. We particularly love the deli boards at The Hollybush because you can pick whichever items you fancy, for the modest price of £2 per item. This can be dangerous as we either never order enough or order far too much. I would highly recommend the chicken liver pate and slow roasted tomatoes. It is apparent that the food is homemade and uses the best ingredients available.
The only qualm I have is the inconsistent portion sizes. Once we were given about 6 halves of the slow roasted tomatoes and another 3. The same with the ciabatta once we were served a small roll and another time a small loaf. As a customer who regularly visits this establishment this is the only fault I can find with the food however it is a very key fault that needs to be ironed out as other diners may be less forgiving.
I love my monthly food and drink outings and I love The Hollybush; it’s a fantastic place to sit, eat, put the world to rights and, of course, drink a few glasses of wine as a midweek reward, just make sure you book a table in advance.
Long may the Happy Wednesday continue!
