Exciting Times Ahead: Oxford Gastronomica Seen
Oxford is known worldwide for its long, rich and colourful educational history however that is all about to change. The county has recently seen the launch of a new dining club made up of local restaurateurs who want to make Oxfordshire a leading destination. Oxford Gastronomica Seen is a self-governing body that has a formal association with Oxford Gastronomica which is Oxford Brookes University’s specialist centre for the study of food, drink and culture.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to the launch of Gastronomica Seen. It was a chance to meet [and talk food] with local food writers/bloggers, restaurateurs and the host, Ken Hom. Everyone I spoke to was very excited to be part of this venture and felt it was time Oxford put its fabulous array of eateries on the map. Ken Hom said:
“At a time when restaurant customers are more informed and demanding than ever, this very ambitious project is extremely welcome. These chefs and restaurateurs are making a bold statement”
One of the main objectives of the Gastonomica Seen group is to demonstrate integrity in food sourcing. This means that environmental issues, such as buying local as well as engaging with the local community are taken into consideration.
Founding members of Gastronomica Seen are:
- The Anchor
- Ashmolean Dining Room
- The Big Bang
- Brasserie Blanc
- La Cucina
- Jacobs and Field
- The Jam Factory
- Magdalen Arms
- The Mole
- The Nut Tree
- Old Parsonage
- Randolph Hotel
In my opinion, Oxford Gastronomica Seen is exactly what Oxfordshire needs; I am so excited to see this project grow and develop. Hopefully by having Restaurateurs work together, more independents will be encouraged to ‘set up shop’ in the city.
Watch this space… The Oxfordshire Restaurant scene is about to explode!!!
